Volunteers, By Greg Holden July 2008

Volunteer: A person who freely offers to do something.
Voluntary: Done, acting or able to act of ones own free will.
The above is the premise that the entire committee has put their hands in the air and said yes I will.
Without them we do not have a club, all of us have busy life’s, most hold down full time jobs and raise families, those that are retired are busier than me and have many other commitments, we would all do well to remember them.
It is with great sadness that I reported to the committee and members present at our June meeting that Bruce Pearce has resigned as Treasure of the Sprite Car Club of Australia. (See the minutes of the meeting published in this magazine).
Bruce is a mate, one I meet through the comradeship of the club that Colin spoke so highly of at the 50th birthday of the Bugeye. Over the years Bruce has given enormous support to both Leah and myself. My children look up to and respect him as I have always done. His efforts and support for the club have been outstanding and he has performed not only the role as treasure but that of a committee member that I strive to do. Motorkhanna BBQ’s, to breakfast cook ups on long week ends, organizing Shannon’s days, supporting breakdowns along the way have always been a part of what Bruce is about. The last twelve months have shown me the real character he is, Building down turns are ugly and we are in the mist of the worst on record, from struggling for work, to winning contracts in Nowra to keep going, Bruce continued to look after the club, from a heart attack, three weeks before the birthday party, the first call I got was about the invites. I am worried about them he says. To then help organize the day to holding the job as MC on the night, may would not have known.
The one that does know is Rhonda, and as I well know with out the support of your partner, you can struggle. Rhonda has always been there. All in all Bruce has always struck me as a “What you see is what you get” type of guy. An honest caring man, one of the good guys, and we have lost him.
To both Rhonda and Bruce, thank you for you help and support over the years, Bruce this is a shit, but I understand. See you a run soon.
The position is now up for grads as a fill in role until the end of the year when we will hold our next AGM.
One bash over and another on the way. We are now looking at the run to Cowra in the states Central West for the October weekend, this is coming up fast.
Please contact Avis, Bruce Pearce or myself if you are interested in going along. We have tentatively book accommodation and wineries, the Japanese Garden as well as other things are on the books.
Christmas in July is fast coming up ad we need to get our booking form to Avis, this is limited to 60 people so do not delay.
Cheers
Greg Holden President, Sprite Car Club of Australia
